Celebrating Tian's Birthday

We celebrated Tian's 15th birthday today... lunch at Red Robin followed by a delicious oreo birthday cake. Happy birthday to Tian!

Zenger Farm Field Trip and Self Portraits

The 2nd graders went on a field trip to Zenger Farm this past week. I was able to go as one of the parent chaperones and we had a great time! Here is Emily on the bus with her friend Ries.

One of the students got to harvest a carrot from the ground. The carrot was cleaned and sliced and everyone tried a sample. Delicious!

The students helped out on the farm during the last hour of the field trip. One of the jobs was to fill buckets with mulch and transport the mulch to a nearby garden. Emily said the bucket was heavy, so she found a friend to carry it for her.  

Lauren's class went to Zenger Farm the day after Emily's class. 

Grandma Rufener was able to attend as a chaperone. Lauren was so happy to have her there!

This weekend we went on an 11+ mile bike ride on the Fanno Creek Trail and stopped at many of the playgrounds along the way. The girls have loved this seesaw since they were toddlers! :)

Emily's Super Scientist Presentation and Newmark Theater Show

Emily was Super Scientist this past week! She presented an experiment on what happens when you place a water filled balloon over the opening of a jar containing a piece of burning paper. This short video clip features Emily going through the different hypotheses and instructing her classmates to make their predictions. She did a fantastic job on her presentation!

This weekend we went downtown to the Newmark Theater to watch a performance of James and the Giant Peach. It was a great show!

Happy Mother's Day

We hosted a Mother's Day dinner at our house on saturday night with all of our family. We had such a fun time!

The girls and I went for a hike this weekend at the Tualatin Valley Wildlife Refuge.

Emily was Star Student this past week! She gave a short presentation about herself to the class. This photo was taken right before she presented. She was really excited and did a fabulous job!

Wall of Fame

At the girls' school, students can earn bull bucks for going above and beyond to do something safe, responsible, or kind. Emily earned enough bull bucks to have her photo featured on the coveted Wall of Fame in the main hallway of the school!

Lauren earned a spot on the Wall of Fame too! :)
