Palace of Versailles

Riding the train from Paris to Versailles...

We went on a bike tour of Versailles through a company called Fat Tire Tours. This is Emily trying out her tour bike.

Lauren and Justin riding their bikes.

The tour group stopped at an open air market to get supplies for a picnic lunch.

We biked all around the grounds of Versailles... so expansive and tranquil!

Tour group selfie!

This is the Chateau du Petit Trianon... Louis XVI gave this chateau as a gift to his bride Marie Antoinette. She used it as a personal retreat to take a break from the stress/formality of royal life at the Palace of Versailles.

Portrait of Marie Antoinette.

Everything was very fancy!

The music room.

Marie Antoinette had this fake peasant village built on the estate to serve as a retreat from the fanciness of Versailles.

The girls enjoyed hanging out with these college students from Texas who were studying abroad.

Emily posing with a furry animal that was scurrying around the grounds.

We returned our bikes and took a gelato break before entering the actual palace.

Family portrait outside of the Palace of Versailles.

Every room was completely over the top with ornate and expensive decorations.

The famous Hall of Mirrors.

The gardens at Versailles were beautiful!

Riding the train back to Paris.

We walked by the Eiffel Tower on the way back to our hotel from the train station.

Apple souffle for dessert!

Champs Elysees and Arc de Triomphe

We visited the Avenue des Champs Elysees, a popular shopping street in Paris.

The President of China was visiting that day, so the street was closed to cars which was kind of nice.

The Arc de Triomphe is at the western end of the Champs Elysees.

Lots of luxury stores and pedestrians!

The Arc de Triomphe was built in the early 1800's in honor of those who fought for France during the Napoleonic wars.

There were quite a few fancy cars parked along the Champs Elysees.

We stopped at a chocolate shop for chocolat chaud... it's basically incredibly rich hot liquid chocolate.

We passed by this flower shop on our way back to the hotel... so pretty!

Eiffel Tower

Enjoying blue skies and sunshine on our way to the Eiffel Tower.

Riding the elevator...

The views were beautiful!

It was really windy on the observation deck.

We stopped at this tiny restaurant for lunch.

The girls ordered escargot for their appetizer...

...and steak and potatoes for their main entree.

The food was amazing... so fresh and perfectly cooked.
