Happy New Year 2022

On New Year's Day, the girls woke up early and went skiing at Mt. Hood with their friend Amanda.

Justin and his snowboard.

Video of the girls skiing.

I stayed back and picked up Lexi from the dog resort... we had just returned home the night before from our trip to Santa Barbara.

Lexi was excited to play with her favorite flamingo toy.

She had poached chicken and sweet potatoes for dinner!

Santa Barbara Trip

We took a trip to Santa Barbara between Christmas and New Years. It snowed the morning of our flight!

We were still able to get to the airport despite the snow. It was surprisingly quiet with no lines.

Walking through the hotel lobby...

We had adjoining oceanfront rooms.

Walking along the beachfront.

So fun to see all of the palm trees!

State Street was within walking distance of our hotel and had a ton of shops and restaurants.

Enjoying ice cream at McConnell's.

The next morning we had breakfast at Scarlet Begonia.

Emily was not upset when the server accidentally brought her a coconut latte instead of a coconut limeade.

Lauren had freshly squeezed grapefruit juice.

The food was amazing!

We went for a hike at Rattlesnake Canyon.

Later that day we went to the botanical gardens.

One of the trails at the botanical garden had a beautiful view.

The next day was rainy, so we decided to take a road trip to Solvang.

Solvang is a 45 minute drive from Santa Barbara and is known as the Danish capital of America.

The first store we went to had incredibly creepy dolls along the entire ceiling perimeter of the store.

We visited another store that sold handmade clocks.

We also had fresh ebelskiver, a Danish pancake served with jam.

The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel... the girls were craving chicken and waffles.

Then we went to the zoo... these giant pigeons were near the entrance and Emily did not like them at all.

These monkeys were swinging on the branches and yelling... they were SO loud!

In the afternoon we walked to Stearn's Wharf.

Unfortunately it started pouring rain and we got completely soaked.

We had dinner at Santa Barbara Craft Ramen... it was delicious!

The rain stopped in the evening, so we walked around the State Street area.

The next morning the sunshine was back.

We flew back to Portland in the afternoon. We flew first class on the way back... first time for the girls! For some reason it was not that much more expensive and there were better seating options.

Lexi stayed at Reynolds Dog Resort while we were gone... there was another Boston Terrier staying there named Josie and they enjoyed playing together. :)
